Foundation Stone Laid for ₹4.99 Crore Flood Restoration Works in Janipur Area

In a significant step towards restoring and strengthening civic infrastructure damaged by last year's devastating rains and flash floods, Sham Lal Sharma, Hon'ble MLA, Jammu North, along with Dr. Devansh Yadav, IAS, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), today jointly laid the foundation stone for the execution of Flood Restoration works under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) in various localities of the Janipur area.
The project, estimated at a cost of ₹4.99 crore, covers Ward Nos. 34, 35, 36, 37 and 38 and aims at the restoration and upgradation of lanes, drains and other allied infrastructure that suffered extensive damage due to the heavy rains and flash floods.
The works will benefit residents of several localities, including Janipur Colony, Main Chowk, Lakkar Mandi, Daily Excelsior Lane Area, Shivalikpuram Nagar, Shiv Vihar, Basant Nagar, Pamposh Colony and adjoining areas. The project includes reconstruction and repair of damaged lanes and drains, improvement of storm-water drainage systems, strengthening of public infrastructure and other allied developmental works to ensure better civic amenities and an improved quality of life for the residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Sham Lal Sharma said that the Government is committed to rebuilding infrastructure damaged by natural calamities and ensuring that people do not face hardships due to inadequate civic facilities. He stated that the restoration works would not only repair the damage caused by the floods but would also enhance the resilience of civic infrastructure against future weather-related challenges.
Dr. Devansh Yadav, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, said that JMC is making sustained efforts to upgrade and modernise urban infrastructure across the city. He informed that the restoration project has been planned keeping in view the requirements of the affected areas and will significantly improve drainage facilities, road connectivity and overall civic infrastructure in Janipur and adjoining localities.
The Commissioner further directed the concerned officers and executing agencies to ensure that the works are executed in a time-bound manner while maintaining the highest standards of quality so that the residents can benefit from the upgraded infrastructure at the earliest.
Local residents and representatives of the area welcomed the initiative and expressed their gratitude to the Government and Jammu Municipal Corporation for taking up the much-needed restoration works.
Among others present on the occasion were senior officers of Jammu Municipal Corporation, local representatives, engineers, officials of the concerned departments and prominent citizens of the area.
